We saw Memphis, the Musical, last week. Here's a link to a video clip of some of the action you'll see on stage if you go!

Beastie wants a cookie.
Today we came across a huge black mastiff sitting in front of a store and staring as if it was his own home and he wanted in. His owner was clearly frustrated and unable to get the big guy to move away. I asked the dog's name and why he was so intent on that particular spot. "Beastie," I learned, remembered that place as one that distributed dog treats, and he really wanted one at the moment. My husband and I were happy to resolve this problem and informed the store clerk inside about the situation out front. The man behind the counter laughed and tossed me a dog treat which I promptly delivered to the waiting animal. Beastie droolingly gulped it up then allowed his master to lead him home.

Service where you wouldn't expect it.
I stopped at a corner convenience shop to buy flowers. The man maintaining that area saw me looking and asked me about the colors in my place then offered some suggestions. After I chose three different flowers, he took them apart and arranged them like so. Then he asked me what my vase was like so he could cut the stems just right. There are so many choices for the shopper here that the service you get is what separates one place from another. This is where I'll buy my flowers from now on.

A Parade!
My husband mentioned on our walk yesterday that he had seen the NYPD out in force that morning which usually means there is a parade somewhere. Boy was there! We heard the noise of it five blocks away as we approached. It was the NYC Gay Pride Parade. For a city where people walk everywhere, naturally the police make pathways for you to cross the parade path, but you had to wait a good 10 minutes. It was extremely long, because an hour later we crossed it going the other way and it was still going on full force.
